I used to be able to sink hours into games but now I get like 45 minutes here and there if I'm lucky. By the time I'm settled in and understand what I'm doing, someone needs me. Thinking about going back to turn based games or single player stuff that I can pause. Missing the old days but it is what it is.
45 minutes is still 45 minutes though. I used to game for 8 hours straight. Now I'm stoked if I get a couple hours on a weekend. You adapt to the reality of having kids.
I get it, but here's the thing - I've found games that work with the chaos now, like roguelikes or sports games where every session stands alone. Might be worth checking out something that doesn't punish you for stopping mid-session.

Same here. I used to think I needed hours to get anything done, but now I'm actually enjoying shorter bursts more. My boys are 5 and 8 so I get maybe that same window you're talking about after bedtime.
The struggle is real. I've basically accepted that my gaming days are what they are now. Shorter bursts, less competitive games, more stuff I can pause. It's a different era of gaming for dads.

Yeah man I get frustrated too but then my kid wants to watch me play something and I remember why I'm fine with the reduced hours. Different chapter of life.
