Best fishing trip with my dad before he passed

We went up to the lake last month and caught nothing but spent the whole day just talking. He told me stuff about his life I'd never heard before. Made me realize I should take my boys on these trips more often. We're going next spring and I'm going to make it count. Life's short.

This made me tear up a little. My dad is getting older and I keep thinking I need to plan more of these trips with him. Thanks for the reminder that the fishing is almost beside the point. It's just about being there.

So sorry about your dad. But what you're describing is honestly what it's all about. My three kids don't care if we catch anything when we go out, they just want to hang out with me. Your dad knew what mattered.

That's beautiful man. Those are the moments that actually matter. I'm sorry you lost him but what a gift that you had that time together at the lake. Catching fish is nice but conversations like that are everything.
