Haven't gamed seriously in like 15 years but my son got me into it and now I want something decent without spending 2k. Budget is probably 800-1000. I like strategy games mostly, nothing too crazy. Don't need max settings just something that runs smooth. Thanks in advance guys
Look at HP Omen or Lenovo Legion gaming laptops too if you want portability. Desktop is better value though if you're cool with staying in one spot.
Check out NZXT prebuilts in that price range, they're usually pretty reliable and come ready to go. No need to stress about building if you haven't done it before.
What strategy games are you thinking? That matters a lot for what specs you actually need.
15 year gap must feel wild getting back into gaming. Tech has changed so much since then. You'll probably be impressed with what you can get for a grand.
That's a cool bonding thing with your son. For 800-1000 you can definitely get something solid for strategy games. Strategy doesn't need crazy graphics anyway.

Recommend checking r/buildapc or LTT forums before you buy. People are really helpful about putting together good value builds for gaming. You might even be able to build it yourself and save some cash.
