Converting a corner of my garage into a legit workspace. Want to get into woodworking once the kids are a bit older and actually in school so I have some hours during the day. Right now I'm just getting my tools organized and setting up a workbench. Anyone here doing woodworking as a hobby? What tools are worth investing in early and what can I cheap out on?
Nice! I'm finally getting into woodworking too after years of saying I would. Start with a good workbench and make sure your tool storage is organized from day one - trust me, losing your drill bit set in a sea of garage clutter gets old fast. What kind of projects are you thinking about?
Fair warning though - kids interrupting your project time is real. I started woodworking thinking it would be my escape but now my daughter wants to 'help' with every project. Not complaining though, it's actually pretty cool sharing it with her.
What's your budget looking like? That'll help determine whether you go full workshop or start smaller. Also highly recommend investing in good lighting - makes a huge difference when you're working on detail stuff.
This is awesome. I've been thinking about the same thing. How much space are you working with? I only have a corner too and I'm trying to figure out if I can actually make it work with the kids' stuff also taking up the garage.
Once you get into woodworking it's addictive. I've got a small workshop setup in my garage too. My advice: don't cheap out on a good table saw and a miter saw first. Those two will let you do 90% of beginner projects. Also make sure you've got good storage because tools multiply on their own.
