My son asked to help me work on the car and I'm trying to make it a thing we do together. He's not really useful yet but he hands me tools and asks questions constantly. Honestly it's way more fun than working on it alone. We're probably going to be working on this thing for years but that's kind of the point I think.
Rebuilding a Civic with your 10 year old is legendary stuff. Even if he's not naturally handy, he's learning problem solving and patience and that dad is willing to spend time teaching him. That matters way more than whether he becomes a mechanic.
That's awesome that he wants to work on it with you. My 8 year old is the same way with me in the garage. Even if he's not great at it yet, he's learning and hanging with his dad. That's the whole point. Stick with it.
How old is the Civic? And does he have his own tools or are you sharing? My twin is just getting interested in this kind of stuff and I'm trying to figure out the best way to set it up.
This right here is what it's all about. My garage is basically the same deal and those moments working on something together are irreplaceable. He'll remember every time you guys worked on that car.
This is gold. He might not be naturally good at it but he'll remember doing this with you forever. Don't worry about the pace or how perfect the work is. The bonding is the project.
