We've been rebuilding an old bike together on Saturday mornings and I love it. He's learning tools, we're talking about stuff without it being forced, and he's actually interested in how things work. Yesterday he spent 20 minutes explaining to me how the chain works. These moments are gold. Anyone else doing hands on projects with their kids?
That's awesome man. My 10 year old and I hit the trails most weekends and it's become our thing. You're building something he'll remember forever - not just the skills but that you made time for it. Plus he'll actually want to hang out with you as a teenager because of this stuff.
This is the stuff that sticks with them forever. My son still talks about the times we worked on projects together. He's learning problem-solving, how to use his hands, and that you care enough to teach him. That's parenting gold right there.

Saturday garage time sounds perfect. My kids and I do the same with our garden beds and it's wild how it brings them together with you. They see something tangible at the end - a working bike, vegetables coming in. That's so much better than screen time. How's he feeling about learning the tools?
