I've been playing Call of Duty after the kids go to bed as my way to blow off steam. Last week my 11 year old caught me and asked if he could play sometime. He's been watching tutorial videos on YouTube. Part of me worries it's too violent, part of me thinks it could be our thing. We're starting with some cooperative games first. Anyone have experience with this?
Those evening hours are gold for decompressing, I get it. But this might be one of those moments where sharing your hobby with him beats the alone time. Could become a real memory.
Man, that's awesome he wants to game with you. I'd maybe start him on something a bit lighter than Call of Duty though - could be a good bonding thing without the M-rated stuff.
At 11 he's probably at that age where he wants to do what dad does. Just make sure whatever you play together is age appropriate and you're not just handing him a controller and logging off.
I was worried about the same thing when my oldest wanted to get into my games. We found a compromise where he plays some stuff with me and some stuff I said he has to wait on. Having that boundary actually made gaming time better.

This is actually pretty cool that he wants to game with you. Some of my best memories with my dad are when he taught me his hobbies. Just maybe look at the rating on Call of Duty first though, might be a bit intense for 11.
Honestly this might be the best thing that could happen. You get your decompression time AND you get to share something you love with your son. That's a win.
