Currently got an old Weber charcoal grill that still works fine. Been eyeing some of the nicer gas grills but my wife thinks I'm crazy spending 800 bucks on a grill. I grill at least 3-4 times a week though so is it actually wasteful or am I justified? Someone tell me it's okay to upgrade.
I get the wife's concern on cost, but honestly if you're grilling regularly it pays for itself over time. I upgraded mine two years ago and don't regret it - just maybe show her the math on how much you use it per month.
That early morning quiet is sacred to me, and I've found my best grilling happens before the kids wake up. A nicer grill makes those mornings even better, just saying.
Gas is nice but there's something about charcoal that just tastes better to me. That said, between work schedules and getting three kids fed, I barely have time to mess with charcoal anymore. Depends what you value more - taste or time.
If your Weber still fires up and cooks even, I'd say hold off. Spend that upgrade money on a nice cover and some quality tools instead. A grill that works is a grill that gets used.

I upgraded from charcoal to gas two years ago and honestly I don't regret it. You lose some of the ritual of charcoal but gain so much convenience when you've got kids waiting to eat. Gas just works when you want it to.
