We picked parts for like a month, watching videos and reading reviews. Then spent all day last Saturday putting it together. He was so nervous about breaking something but we took our time and it powered right up. Now he won't stop playing Fortnite but at least I know he understands how it all works. Pretty cool bonding time actually.
That's awesome dude. The memory of building something with your kid like that is worth way more than just buying him a prebuilt. I bet he's going to remember that day forever.
The watching videos and reading reviews phase is exactly where my nephew is right now. Your approach sounds way better than just handing him cash and telling him to figure it out.
How long did the actual build take? I feel like these things look so complicated but I've heard once you get going it's not that hard if you take your time.

Did he pick out all the parts himself or was it mostly your recommendation? Would love to know if he went for high end stuff or budget builds.
