Thinking about getting back into fishing after like 10 years but I'm worried I won't have enough free time with work and family stuff. Do you guys actually catch fish regularly or is it mostly just an excuse to chill outside? Honest answers only.
Depends on your definition of worth. If you're looking to catch fish and fill a cooler, maybe not. But if you want an excuse to sit by water and think about stuff that isn't work or bills, absolutely go for it.
I got back into fishing last year after being away for 15 years and honestly it's been worth every minute. The time investment pays for itself in peace and quiet away from the house. Start with just one trip a month and see how it feels.
My dad always said fishing is just an excuse to not answer your phone for a few hours. That alone makes it worth it in my book. Plus my kids actually want to come with me now which is a bonus.
The real question is whether you have a decent fishing spot nearby. If it's more than 45 minutes away the time investment becomes a whole thing. Where are you thinking of going?

Start with a cheap rod and tackle box from Walmart. Don't drop hundreds on gear until you know you're actually going to use it. That's what I did and I still go like twice a month.
