Just dropped about 400 bucks at IKEA for shelving and storage for my basement gaming area. Got the BILLY bookcases for my controllers and games. Now I'm second guessing if I should have gone with something nicer. How many of you have IKEA stuff down there and has it held up over time or is it all falling apart?
Nice investment in your space, man. I've been eyeing shelving for board game storage myself since Friday nights are getting cramped. The Catan box army keeps growing.
BILLY bookcases are solid for gear storage, honestly. I've got a couple in the garage holding my comic runs and they're still standing strong after a few years. Four hundred for a whole setup sounds reasonable.
400 bucks at IKEA is dangerous because those things look small and suddenly you're at checkout with way more than you planned. What setup are you going for down there?
The real question is how long until those shelves need reinforcement for all the gaming stuff you're gonna pile on them. IKEA can be solid though if you anchor right.
Did you get the Kallax units? Everyone gets the Kallax. Still holding strong in my garage three years later so probably fine.

That's a good haul. With two kids and limited basement time, I'm always looking at ways to maximize the space when I get it. Hope you get some solid gaming time out of it.
