I've got a little patio space and been thinking about upgrading from my tiny apartment grill. Looking at the Weber Genesis propane grill or a Kamado Joe charcoal setup. Propane is convenient but charcoal tastes better right? What are you guys running and would you switch if you had to do it over? Budget is like 5-8 hundred.
Propane all the way for a small patio setup. Charcoal takes up way more space and if you're in an apartment you probably want quick and clean. I use a little propane grill and it does everything I need.
Go charcoal if you've got the space. Yeah it's more effort but the flavor difference is legit and my kids actually like hanging out while I'm grilling with charcoal for some reason. Propane is convenient though.
Depends on how much time you actually want to spend prepping and cleaning. Charcoal is better if you love the ritual of it, propane if you just want to throw some meat on and relax.
What's your budget looking like? That might matter more than the fuel type honestly. There are solid propane grills in every price range.
I just upgraded to a small propane grill last year and best decision for a small space. Heats fast, consistent temps, and I can actually leave for a sec to help my kids without ruining dinner. With a patio you're probably doing quick weeknight grills anyway.
For an apartment patio I'd lean charcoal. Takes up less space and you get better flavor. Propane is convenient but if space is tight the charcoal kettle grill is way more versatile and honestly more fun to cook on.
