Need help choosing between weber and traeger

Been grilling on a basic charcoal setup for like 5 years and finally have the budget to upgrade. Everyone at work keeps telling me to go pellet but my dad swears by his weber. What's the real difference? Looking to do mostly weekend cookouts with the family and maybe some competition style stuff down the line. Don't want to spend more than 1500. Anyone have experience with both?
