New grill question - charcoal or gas?

Looking to upgrade my old grill and trying to decide. Gas is obviously more convenient but I grew up using charcoal and the flavor is just different. My old man always said real grilling is charcoal only. But man, it would be nice to just turn a knob and not wait 20 minutes for coals. What do you guys prefer? What am I missing if I go gas?
