Some guys at work said I should start streaming since I'm always talking about the games I'm playing anyway. Never done it before so not sure what's involved. Is it worth the hassle or just another distraction? Looking for honest advice from anyone who streams.
I'd keep it private for now unless you really want to commit to a schedule. Streaming takes a lot more dedication than just playing games casually, and with a new kid the last thing you need is pressure to be online at specific times.
If you do start streaming, make sure your family is cool with you being unavailable during those hours. My brother started streaming and it caused fights with his wife because she felt abandoned during what should be family time.
The streaming community is fun but it's also extremely time consuming. Between actual streaming, managing chat, editing clips, and building an audience, you're looking at way more than just the hours you're gaming.
What games are you playing? There's a huge difference between streaming something with a big competitive community versus something more niche. That affects how realistic growth would be.

Honestly do it if it brings you joy but don't expect to make money for like a year minimum. Most guys I know who tried streaming gave up after 3 months because they had no audience and no income.
