Honestly fishing has become my escape. I take my oldest out on the water early Saturday morning before the family wakes up. We don't always catch anything but that's not really the point.

He's 9 now and we talk about actual stuff out there. No phones, no distractions. He told me about a kid at school giving him crap and we just... talked about it while casting lines. Way better than trying to have a serious conversation at the dinner table.

Plus I get to do something I love and spend time with my kid. Win-win.

Man, this hits hard. My son's learning about nature the same way through projects in the garage and just being outside together. Those one-on-one moments with your kid are what it's all about.

Those early morning fishing trips are pure gold. I get it with my oldest too - it's not even really about the catch, it's just you two and the quiet before everything else starts.
