Been wanting one for a couple years but finally have the space and budget. Looking at either a drum smoker or something like a Weber. I've got a bigger family so need something that can handle 12+ people. Anyone have experience with both? Which one is easier to maintain?
I went with a drum smoker two years ago and have zero regrets. The learning curve is pretty small and the results are incredible. Start with brisket, you'll be hooked.
How much space are we talking? I wanted one too but realized I'd have nowhere to put it without my wife staging a full revolt about the backyard layout.
Drum vs offset is really about whether you want simplicity or that traditional smoker look. For a first timer I'd say drum all day.

Do it. Best investment I made for weekend dad time. Even just having it in the backyard changes your whole vibe. Fair warning though you'll be out there at 5am more than you'd expect.
