Thinking about getting back into fishing

Haven't fished seriously since before kids came along and I'm missing it. My oldest just turned 10 so I'm thinking about taking him out to some local spots. Would be cool to share that with him. Question is whether I should invest in new gear or see if my old stuff still works. Any dads here fish with their kids? What age did yours start?

This is the perfect age to bring him along. My daughter is about the same and we've been out on the water a few times. She mostly just wants to help cast and sees it as quality time with dad, but that's really what it's about anyway. Start simple and see if he bites.

Just a heads up - the gear can get expensive quick if you're not careful. Start with basic stuff and see if he actually enjoys it before dropping serious money. Some kids love it and some don't, no way to know until you try.

Do it man. I've been meaning to get back into fishing too but between work and the kids' activities it never happens. If you can swing it on a regular basis even once a month that would be incredible. Your 10 year old will remember those moments forever.
