Thinking about getting into fishing, where do I even start?

My buddy keeps inviting me out on weekends to go fishing and I'm thinking about finally trying it. I don't have any equipment and have no idea what I'm doing. Is it expensive to get started? Should I just buy a cheap setup first or invest in something decent? Looking to do local lake fishing mostly, nothing crazy. Any beginner tips?

I've been thinking about getting into fishing too. It seems like a good way to get out on weekends and have some quiet time while the wife handles things at home. Plus eventually the kids could get into it with you.

Fishing is awesome man, you should definitely try it. Start with basic stuff like a simple rod and reel, some common lures, and just hit a local lake or river. Your buddy can probably get you set up with what you need.

Definitely go for it. Fishing is one of those hobbies that's relaxing but also keeps your brain engaged. And you get to hang out with your buddy which is half the fun. Don't overthink it, just start simple.
