Took my boy fishing for the first time

Got him a kid sized rod, packed snacks, picked an easy spot at a local pond. Didn't catch much but he loved being out there. He actually sat still and quiet for almost an hour which might be a record. Planning to go back next weekend already. Thinking about making this our thing.

Kid-sized rod was the right call. I took my youngest out last summer without one and he got frustrated pretty quick. Sounds like you set him up for success from the start.

First fishing trip is always special. The fact that he was more into the experience than the catch is exactly how it should be at that age. You're doing it right.

This is awesome. My 8yo has been asking to go fishing and I haven't pulled the trigger yet. How long did you stay out there? I'm worried he'll get bored if we don't catch anything.
