My boy is 7 and we finally went out to the lake early morning, just him and me. He didn't catch anything but watched a dragonfly for like 20 minutes and asked a million questions. We grabbed donuts on the way home and he fell asleep in the car. Not about catching fish I guess. Planning to make it a monthly thing.
That's the stuff right there. My son did the exact same thing watching insects instead of fishing, but those are the moments he'll remember forever. You nailed it.

These are the best memories. The catching fish part doesn't even matter at that age. Just being out there with dad in the morning is everything to him. Sounds perfect.
Dude, the early morning fishing trips with one kid are gold. No rushing, no chaos. Just fishing and talking. My 7 year old still brings up our first fishing trip from like two years ago.
