Packed up early Saturday morning and took my 6 year old to the lake near our house. He didn't catch anything but he loved throwing the line in the water and we got some good time together. Packed sandwiches and just sat there for 3 hours. He's already asking when we can go again. This might become our thing.
Nice! Six is such a great age for that. I've been planning to do the same with my oldest. How long did you stay out? Any tips for keeping a kid that age engaged if the fish aren't cooperating?
That's awesome man. The fishing part is cool but honestly the best part is just being out there with him. My 2-year-old can't fish yet but we do nature walks and he's content just pointing at stuff. These early memories stick with them.

Did he fall in or get all muddy at least? That's half the fun at that age. My son came back looking like he'd been swimming in the lake.

Did he at least have fun even though the fish weren't biting? Sometimes that's the whole point anyway. I took my older one fishing once and he spent half the time throwing rocks in the water but talked about it for weeks.
