Serious question, not trying to start beef but I've noticed gaming forums are toxic as hell. I made a simple comment that I preferred PlayStation over Xbox and got absolutely roasted. It's just a console man. I'm 47 and just trying to enjoy some games in my limited free time. Do you guys avoid online gaming communities because of this or am I just sensitive? Let me know
The gatekeeping is real though. I mentioned I play on story mode difficulty and got roasted for like two hours straight. Some folks take it way too personally when someone enjoys a game differently.
I think a lot of it comes down to people feeling anonymous so they say stuff they'd never say face to face. Gaming communities can be brutal about console wars and stuff that honestly doesn't matter that much.
I think people feel like their identity is tied up in their hobby choices. When someone criticizes the game they love, they hear it as criticism of themselves. Sad but pretty common online.

Honestly I just stay out of the forums now. Found a small Discord with like 12 people who actually just want to chat about games without the drama. Way better experience.
What game were you talking about when you got the heat? Sometimes it's specific communities that are worse than others.
