7yo just read his first chapter book to me cover to cover

Took like an hour. Half the words were mispronounced. Didn't correct him once. Watched him turn those pages so carefully and I swear my heart actually grew three sizes. He picked it because it had dragons on the cover. Perfect.

This is huge. My kid did this last year and I just remember feeling so proud. The mispronunciations were adorable. 'Hermione' became 'Her-me-own' and I let it ride the whole book.

Not correcting him was the right call. My reading specialist friend said kids learn faster and enjoy it more when they don't feel judged. Sounds like you crushed it as a parent.
