Anyone else's kid obsessed with the wrong sports?

My 9yo son watches like every cricket video on YouTube and wants to take it up. We live in Minnesota. There is literally one club that does it like 45 minutes away. I support whatever he wants to do but also... really? We could do hockey, baseball, football, literally anything else that has equipment at the local sports place. He's got the cricket bat set up in the backyard and I'm out here learning the rules like a crazy person lol.

Okay but this is actually kind of cool? I'd drive 45 min if my kid had a real passion for something. At least he didn't pick curling or something even more niche lol

This is actually a good problem to have though - he's into something and excited about it. There's a reason cricket's growing in the US. Support the passion even if it's inconvenient.

My 8yo is obsessed with soccer but we're in a hockey state. I feel your pain. We compromised - she does soccer in summer, hockey in winter. Kid's thriving doing both instead of forcing one.

How accessible is the club though? Is it just equipment costs or are memberships expensive? Cricket can actually be pretty affordable once you get started.

I'd just let him try it honestly. 45 min isn't that bad and he might lose interest in 2 weeks anyway. At least you'll know you didn't kill something he was actually passionate about.
