Thinking about getting one for my 7yo - he's got a ton of anxiety at bedtime and takes forever to settle down. There's like 50 options on Amazon and I don't know which ones are worth the money vs gimmick. Did you actually see a difference? How heavy should it be? Any brands to avoid?
Don't fall for the gimmicky Amazon ones. Brands like Weighted Evolution or Luna actually have decent reviews. Read through the 1-star reviews - usually tells you what'll break.
This actually works for some kids but also some kids think it's too much pressure and hate it. Maybe try at a friend's house first if you can?
The weight should be about 10% of body weight so for a 7yo that's probably 5-7 lbs depending on size. Don't cheap out on Amazon - look for actual therapeutic brands.
Real question: did you talk to his doctor about the bedtime anxiety? Might be something deeper than just needing a blanket.
We got one for our anxious 6yo and it genuinely helped. Not magic but noticeable difference within like a week. Took about 2 weeks for him to actually want to use it though.

Yoto makes good weighted blankets specifically for kids and they're not insanely expensive. We use theirs and honestly it's worth it if your kid has actual anxiety.
Got my 7yo one and she loves it but you have to wash them and that's a pain. Make sure whatever you pick has a removable cover or you'll regret it.
