Finally got my teenager to voluntarily help me in the yard

My 14yo has been glued to his phone all summer. I asked him to help me edge the front beds and to my shock he actually said yes. Spent the whole afternoon working together and we didn't even argue once. He even asked to do it again next weekend. I think I'm finally getting through to him.

The edging was the hook? Nice. Sometimes finding the right task that doesn't feel like punishment actually works. Did he ask to come back out?

Fourteen and voluntarily helping outside is huge. I'm still working on getting my kids to do anything without negotiating first.
