We've been working on this for like 6 months. Every weekend, same empty parking lot, same patience wearing thin on both our parts. Today he just clicked and went like 50 feet on his own. He wasn't even scared anymore. The look on his face when he realized he did it was everything. Took a video for his mom to see. Absolutely crushed it.
The consistency is what gets them there. You could have given up after month 2 but you kept showing up every weekend. That's the actual lesson he's learning besides just bike riding.
6 months of patience in an empty parking lot is dad dedication. That's the kind of thing he's going to remember forever. Every time he rides that bike he's going to think about you there with him.
This is HUGE! Seriously one of the best feelings as a dad. That moment when they finally get it and take off on their own is just incredible. Six months of patience paying off right there.
Yes! We did the same thing but it was in our driveway because my kid refused to leave the house haha. The empty parking lot is genius though. Did he wipe out at all or was it pretty clean once he got the balance part?
Congrats man that's huge. I did the same thing with my oldest and you're right about the patience part. After probably month 4 I wanted to give up but something just clicked for him. Now he rides everywhere.

Congrats man! That's legit one of those milestones you remember forever. I'm dreading this day because my youngest is going to want me there every single time and I know I'm going to be that nervous dad hovering around.
