First time my kid defended me and I wasn't ready for it

My 8yo overheard his mom joking about how bad my cooking is (it's deserved tbh) and he actually stood up and said, 'Dad's spaghetti is good though. Better than mac and cheese.' I literally almost teared up in the kitchen. That kid didn't have to say anything but he did. Felt like winning the world series for a moment.

That's the stuff right there. Your kid just showed you he's got your back. Doesn't matter if the cooking burns sometimes, he knows what matters. You're doing something right as a dad.

This made me smile. Eight years old and already has the loyalty down. Your wife probably got a kick out of it too, even if she was the one joking. Those are the moments you remember.

That's gold. He's learning that we stick up for the people we love, even when the jokes are kind of true. And hey, bad cooking is a small price to pay for having a kid who goes to bat for you like that.
