Got my oldest into reading finally
He's 9 and never wanted to read anything. Found out he likes minecraft so I got him a book series about a kid building stuff in a minecraft world. He's read 3 books in 2 weeks. I'm so proud I could burst.

This is a huge win. Once they realize reading can be about things they actually care about instead of assigned class stuff the whole dynamic changes. Which series did you go with?
The Minecraft connection is perfect. Kids that age respond when they actually care about what they're reading.
Minecraft books are a genius gateway. My oldest got into those too and next thing I knew he was reading everything. Sometimes you just gotta meet them where their interests are instead of forcing what you think they should read.
That's such a smart move connecting his interests to reading. Sounds like you unlocked something big for him, congrats on the win.
This is genius! My daughter is the same way with gymnastics books versus regular ones. Sometimes you just gotta meet them where they're at with their interests.
9 is the age where they finally start getting it. My younger one wouldn't read a thing for years and then one day he just decided he wanted to. Patience paid off. Glad you found the right hook for your kid.
Minecraft book series is genius. Finding the hook that gets them interested is half the battle. Once they start reading they can't stop.

Getting a 9yo to read is a legitimate win. A lot of parents struggle with that age group so you crushed it by meeting him where his interests are.
Same thing worked for my oldest. He was resistant until I found books about his interests. Now he reads way more than I expected.
