Got my teenager to put his phone down and actually talk to me

Took him to grab some food after his soccer game and somehow we ended up having this really good conversation about college and what he wants to do. He was actually engaged and asking me questions about my job. Felt like a win for sure. Thought we were losing him to the phone life.

This is what I'm working toward with my daughter. She's still young but I'm hoping that as she gets older we have these moments too. Did you do anything special to make him want to talk or did it just happen?
