This has been going on for weeks. He gets holes in literally every sock we own within days. Is this a sensory thing? Should I be worried? Or do I just accept that I'm gonna be buying socks constantly? We've tried everything - different brands, different textures, telling him to stop (obviously). Any parents dealt with this before?
My 6yo does this. We switched to seamless socks and it basically stopped. Apparently regular sock seams bother some kids. Worth trying before you assume it's behavioral
Definitely could be sensory. My nephew does the same thing - the seam on regular socks drives him nuts. We got him those sock subscription boxes and he stopped picking because they fit better
Have you asked him WHY he picks them? Like actually sit down and ask. Sometimes kids will tell you it itches or feels weird. Once you know the reason you can fix it instead of just replacing socks
Could be sensory, could be a nervous habit, could be just... being 5. The sock picking is annoying but if he's not hurting himself or acting out otherwise I wouldn't worry too much

Buy the cheap socks in bulk from Costco and just accept the replacement cost. Some kids are hard on clothes, that's just parenting. Don't fight it
