Been nervous about putting my shy 7yo in organized sports but his mom pushed for it. He was so anxious at practice but at the game today he actually came out of his shell and scored the first goal. The smile on his face when he realized what happened... yeah this parenting thing is pretty amazing sometimes.

That's huge! My daughter was nervous about starting gymnastics too but once she got her first skill down, it changed everything. These moments matter way more than the score. You should be proud of him for trying.

Your wife was right to push for it. Sometimes kids just need that one good moment to realize they can do it. Hope he sticks with it because confidence from sports carries over to everything else.

Scoring in his first game? That's amazing. Shy kids can surprise you when they get out there. Keep encouraging him but also let him set the pace. Sounds like he found something he can be proud of.
