Kid Stuck Up for Himself and I'm Beaming

My 8 year old came home and told me this kid was being a jerk to him at lunch. Instead of just taking it, he went and sat with someone else and made a new friend. Didn't escalate, didn't let it ruin his day, just moved on. We've been working on his confidence and standing up for himself and this was exactly the right move. I told him how proud I was and he got all shy but I could tell he felt good about it. That's the stuff that matters more than grades or trophies.

This is the win right here. Not solving everything for them but making sure they know how to handle conflict. That's the real dad victory. How did he handle it exactly?

Love this. My daughter is only 3 but this is exactly what I'm hoping I can teach her as she gets older. It's way better when they learn to stand up for themselves in a healthy way.

That's awesome man. So many kids just take it or come home crying. The fact that he stood up for himself instead of either backing down or escalating shows real maturity. You should be proud.

That's exactly the kind of stuff that makes this whole thing worth it. My 8 year old did something similar last month and I couldn't stop smiling about it for days. You're raising a kid who knows how to handle himself, that's legit.
