My 4 year old said I was his favorite parent

I know it's not a competition and kids are fickle but man did that hit different. We were building a blanket fort and he just looked at me and said 'Dad you're my favorite, you're so silly.' I'm still riding that high. Mom was fine with it too which was cool of her. These moments don't last forever so I'm just soaking it in.

Dude, savor that moment. I got told the same thing by my 5 year old last month and I'm still riding that high. You earned it by showing up and building stuff with him. Those are the moments that matter.

My 4 year old cycles through who her favorite parent is based on who gave her dessert that day. So enjoy this win while it lasts because next week it might be different. But yeah, that feeling is incredible.

It's not about the competition but it IS about them knowing their dad is present and engaged. The fact that he said it means you're doing something right. Building stuff together is quality time that sticks with them.
