This might sound small but I've been trying to teach him for like 6 months. Today he just did it without asking for help and I swear I got emotional watching him concentrate so hard on those laces. Took a bunch of photos for his mom. These are the wins that actually matter.
Those are the best wins as a dad. Not the big stuff everyone sees, just the small stuff you've been working on forever and suddenly they've got it. Congrats on the persistence paying off.
This is legitimately amazing. Parents don't get enough credit for the patience it takes to teach these things. My daughter just started trying and I'm already sweating about how long this is gonna take.
That's the stuff right there. Not the big vacations or expensive toys, it's watching them figure something out. My 7yo finally mastered it last year and I had the same feeling. Celebrate it.
Six months of trying something that simple sounds painful but those wins hit different when they finally stick it. My oldest took forever with shoes too. Feels like a big milestone even though it's just shoes.

Dude that's not small at all! Six months of patience paying off is huge. My 6yo just got it down too and now he refuses help even when he does it wrong. At least he's trying.
