Been working on this since last year. This morning he just... did it. Both shoes. Didn't ask me once. I literally teared up a little bit. He's been refusing to wear velcro shoes specifically so he could learn the "adult way." Worth every frustrated moment.
Okay this is sweet. The tears are appropriate - that's the stuff that matters way more than what they're learning in school. He learned it because he wanted to, not because you forced it.
That's genuinely huge. Shoe-tying is one of those developmental things that sounds small but represents actual independence and persistence. The fact that he refused velcro BECAUSE he wanted to do it the "adult way" shows something about his character. Be proud of that.
The velcro thing is actually impressive. Most 7yos would just wear the velcro and call it a day. The fact that he wanted to earn the "adult" skill on purpose is wild.
