Seriously just walked past his room and he's sitting there with both shoes tied. Double knots even?? I've been trying to teach him for like 6 months and apparently all I had to do was leave him alone lol. He was so proud of himself. Took a pic because my wife won't believe me otherwise.
Wait, he just decided to do double knots right away? That's actually impressive. Most kids I know do the basic loop for like a year before they're ready for doubles. Is he naturally good with fine motor stuff or was this just a fluke?
lol same here. my daughter refused to learn for months, then one day just... did it. i think they actually need to figure it out themselves without the pressure of us watching. way to go on the double knots though—mine still does the single knot thing where it comes undone by lunchtime
This is the way. Honestly I think kids learn better when they're not being observed. Less pressure, more willingness to experiment and fail. My 6yo is still working on this and I keep wanting to jump in and help, but your post just reminded me to back off a bit.

This happened with my son and potty training too. The moment I stopped making it this big thing he was supposed to do, he just... did it. I was trying so hard to teach and demo and whatever, and it turns out the lesson was just giving him space. Also definitely share that pic with your wife lol, these moments are gold
