My daughter said I was her favorite today

Been having a rough few weeks at work and honestly feeling like I'm failing at this dad thing. My 8 year old came up to me today while I was sitting on the couch and said out of nowhere 'Dad you're my favorite parent.' My wife heard and laughed and I literally almost teared up. Best moment I've had in months.

This is the stuff right here. When work is brutal and you're questioning everything, your kid comes in with that favorite declaration and it resets your entire perspective. You needed to hear that and she knew it. That's love.

Dude, hold onto that moment. Those words hit different when work has been kicking your ass. You're not failing at this dad thing, not even close. The fact that she feels comfortable saying that to you means you're absolutely nailing it.

Those moments are fuel. My daughter said something similar last month and I literally had to step away because I got emotional. It's proof that showing up and being present matters more than being perfect at everything else.
