My kid's elementary school actually isn't terrible

I say this as someone who was VERY skeptical about the magnet program and the whole application process. But 4 months in? Teacher's actually engaged, they do real projects, and my 6yo actually WANTS to go to school instead of complaining every morning. The homework load is reasonable, the teacher actually knows the kids' names, and there's an actual curriculum instead of just worksheets. I'm genuinely impressed and I'm not usually an easy sell on these things. Might stick it out for a few years before we reconsider.
