My 13yo came to me about a friendship drama situation instead of just shutting himself in his room. Didn't even roll his eyes when I talked. We actually had a conversation that lasted more than 3 words. I'm not naive enough to think this means we're past the moody teen stage but man, I'll take these moments. They're rarer than they used to be.

This is huge honestly. The fact that he came to YOU instead of venting to friends online or just bottling it up means you've built real trust there. That's the hardest part of the teenage years so you're already winning.
The friendship drama years are rough. Good on you for being approachable enough that he felt comfortable opening up about it.
