My 4yo was doing great for like 2 months, then suddenly having accidents again. No new stressors that I can see. Just random accidents throughout the day. He's clearly embarrassed about it. I'm not making a big deal out of it but curious if other parents have dealt with this? How long did it last? Should I just ride it out or is there something I should be doing differently?
Totally normal. My 4yo did the exact same thing around that age—we thought we were past it too. Peds said sometimes their brains just need a reset. We backed off the pressure completely for like 2 weeks, made it zero big deal, and it cleared up. The embarrassment part is real though, we just kept reassuring him accidents happen and moved on without making it a thing.
Could be a UTI or something physical? Not trying to be alarmist but that was the case with my daughter's regression. Doctor said sometimes it's hard to catch because kids don't always complain about pain. Might be worth a quick checkup just to rule it out.

My experience—don't push at all right now. Just let him know it's cool, accidents happen, help him clean up matter-of-factly. We made such a bigger deal out of it than we needed to and it only made our kid more anxious about it.
How much water is he drinking? This sounds weird but my kid was regressing and it turned out he was actually dehydrated from me trying to limit fluids before bed. Once we fixed the timing it got better.

lol the 'clearly embarrassed' part hit me. My son would try to hide and tell me nobody needed to know. I started being super casual about cleanup—like 'oops, we got this, no worries'—and I swear that helped more than anything. Pressure makes it worse imo.
