Rant: School volunteer sign-up sheet

Why do they always ask during the ONE time I can't check my email? Now there's only "snack helper for field trip" left and everyone has already claimed the good stuff. My kid is gonna think I don't participate in school activities but I literally CAN'T during my work hours. This system sucks. Do other schools do it differently?

Yeah the timing on these things is always insane. Last year they asked for volunteers on a Friday at 3pm for something happening the following Monday. I was already locked into work stuff.

Get on the class parent's good side and they'll loop you in early. That's how I found out about sign-ups before they hit the main sheet.

Dude this hits different. I missed the sign-up sheet for field trip chaperone because I was in back-to-back meetings and now I'm stuck with 'bathroom monitor' for the kindergarten class. The school needs to send these out like a month in advance or something.

Pro tip: ask your kid's teacher directly if you can email her your availability instead. Our school was cool with it after I explained I don't check the folder they send home until after dinner.
