Been nervous about doing this ever since my wife said she needed a girls weekend with her friends. Took the boys ages 6 and 8 to a state park nearby. We hiked, made s'mores, told stories by the fire, and nobody cried or complained. My oldest said it was the best day ever. I'm still riding this high and planning the next trip already.

This gives me so much hope. I've been too nervous to try overnight stuff alone with mine but seeing you actually pull it off makes me think it's doable. How long were you out there?
Nice work getting over that hump. Once you do it once you realize it's really not as scary as your brain makes it out to be. Plus your wife gets her weekend and the kids get a memory, everyone wins.
