Venting - Birthday parties are getting ridiculous

Just got invited to a "destination birthday" where parents are expected to rent a party bus for a 7yo's birthday. PLUS chip in for a pottery painting class. PLUS buy a gift. It's in 2 weeks and honestly I can't even figure out logistics for my family to go.

I get that people want to do special things for their kids but ngl this is getting out of hand. We're doing a park and pizza party next month and calling it a day. Am I being cheap or is everyone else seeing this escalate too?

How much are they expecting parents to chip in? Because that sounds like it could be like 50 bucks per kid minimum just for the bus rental alone.

A party bus for a 7 year old birthday? That's insane. When did we decide that normal birthday parties weren't good enough anymore. Just get a cake and some pizza like the rest of us.

I went to one of these destination parties last year and honestly it was kind of chaotic. Half the kids got car sick, the party favors were weird, and everyone's kids were overstimulated by the time it ended.

Just RSVP no and send a gift if you want. You're not obligated to fund someone else's over the top party idea.

The worst part is the kids don't even remember most of it. My son had an expensive party at 8 and what does he talk about? The plain pizza we had at home the next day.
