My son does this thing where he's constantly like "And NOW I'm putting my shoe on, and now I'm getting the other shoe, and now I'm tying it..." for literally 20 minutes straight. Is this normal? It's driving me up a wall but also sometimes it's kind of hilarious? Just needed to vent lol
This is PEAK 7yo behavior. My son does the exact same running commentary on everything he's doing. Apparently it's normal development - they're basically narrating their own lives? Still drives me nuts though lol
This is peak 7yo energy. It's called self-talk and apparently it helps them process stuff? Still annoying as HELL though, you're allowed to be annoyed.
Narration is how kids his age figure out cause and effect and sequence. His brain is still building the 'this leads to that' pathways. Doesn't make it less grating but at least it means something productive is happening in there
The hilarious part of this is the best part. In like 10 years you're gonna miss the narration honestly. I know that sounds crazy but younger kids being silly is way better than teenage angst.
My son did this exact thing and I swear it was for like 3 years straight. The narration eventually tapered off around 10. So... buckle up I guess lol
It's totally normal but yes it's absolutely maddening. My pediatrician said it's actually good - he's processing and thinking out loud. Doesn't make it less annoying when you're trying to have a quiet afternoon though.
My 7yo does this AND adds sound effects. Running commentary plus 'pshhhh, whoooosh' noises while getting dressed. Some days I'm laughing, some days I want to pull my hair out lol

The fact that it's sometimes hilarious means you're processing it right. It IS annoying AND it's kinda cute that his brain is just constantly thinking out loud. You can hold both feelings.
