Why does my 7yo cry about everything?
We can't seem to do anything without a breakdown. Breakfast order was wrong? Tears. Can't find the green crayon? Full meltdown. School said something kinda critical about his behavior? Inconsolable for hours. Is this normal? Is he just sensitive or is something else going on? My wife thinks I'm overthinking it but it seems excessive compared to his 4yo brother who takes stuff in stride. Should I be concerned or just ride it out?
Could also just be that he's hitting that age where his emotions are getting bigger but his coping skills aren't there yet. Our therapist recommended teaching him to name what he's feeling instead of just spiraling. 'You seem frustrated about the green crayon' instead of fixing it immediately.
