12 year old wants TikTok, is that a bad call?

He's been asking for months. His friends all have it and he feels left out. I know TikTok gets a lot of hate but what's the actual danger? I'm thinking about letting him get it but with restrictions and checking in on his FYP sometimes. My wife thinks I'm insane. What's the general vibe from you guys, is this a line in the sand or am I being overprotective?

TikTok gets a bad rap but the real issue is how much time kids spend on it. If he's going to use it anyway, better to let him on your terms with boundaries than sneaking it on a friend's phone.

My kid asked for the same thing. Honestly I let him have it but I set up screen time limits and I follow his account. He lost interest after like two months anyway when he realized I was watching.

Everyone's kid has TikTok at that age. My take is set a time limit, be friends with him on there, and move on. It's not as evil as the news makes it sound.
