My son gets FURIOUS when he loses in Fortnite or Call of Duty. Yesterday he threw a controller and yelled at his sister. I took the games away for a week but he's acting like his life ended. I get that gaming is how he hangs with friends but the anger issues are real. Should I let him back on or hold the line? Other parents dealing with this?
Controller throwing is a problem. At 13 he's old enough to understand that kind of behavior isn't acceptable. I'd honestly take the games away for a while if he can't control his reactions. That's not about the games, that's about self control.
This is tough because the rage is real at that age but you gotta set boundaries. Maybe it's time to limit the gaming sessions when you notice him getting heated?
Throwing controllers is where I draw the line. My rule is immediate game ban if there's any physical aggression. They have to learn that losing is part of playing. Might also be worth checking if he's playing with older kids online who are hyping up the rage.

The competitive games do something to kids that age. I've seen it with my oldest. It's not just gaming though - if he can't handle losing at anything without exploding that's a bigger issue. Might need to talk about what anger management looks like for him.
My older son does this too but he's learned that throwing stuff means it gets confiscated for two weeks. Took a couple rounds of that but he got the message pretty quick.
