6 year old wants a phone and I have no idea what to do

First grader came home asking why all his friends have phones and he doesnt. They use them to talk on Snapchat and play games together. My gut says hes way too young but part of me wonders if hes going to be the only kid without one. When did you guys give your kids phones and what kind of rules did you set up? Especially worried about how fast kids can stumble onto weird content.

This is tough because the FOMO is real for them. We did a family rule where phones happen at a certain age, period. It helped my oldest understand it wasn't about him being left out, just our family's boundary.
